Clue #2 = Pinwheels w/BIG Reveal!

March is the beginning of our 'Twister Season' in the MidWest - now is a good time to create some Twister/Pinwheel blocks for our March 2022 Sweet Freedom Mystery:

Blue/White Pinwheel block

Pinwheels:

  • Thirty-two (32) 6 1/2" in-the-raw Blue/White Pinwheels, (6" FINISHED)
  • GO! Half-Square Triangle, (3" FINISHED)Die #55017

As most know - there are a gazillion ways to cut/sew HSTs into Pinwheel blocks - here are a couple:

Fellow Blogger shares basic instructions on How To create a 6" FINISHED Pinwheel block:

Cutting Tips:

  • It takes four (4) Blue and four (4) White Half Square Triangles/HSTs to create ONE (1) Pinwheel block - you need 32 TOTAL Blue/White Pinwheel blocks = 128 Blue HSTs and 128 White HSTs.
  • I was able to cut ALL my Half Square Triangles in less than an hour w/AccuQuilt GO! die & cutter...That's WHY I LOVE it ;-)
  • Not only is cutting w/GO! dies accurate and Fast - ALL my 'dog ears' are already clipped off - one less thing to deal with...Time-Saver!

HSTs cut w/AccuQuilt GO! die - NO Dog Ears to trim!

Pressing Tips:

  • All my seams are pressed to the 'dark/Blue' side, which allowed them to 'nest' when it came time for final assembly of my Pinwheel Blocks...Quilter's Choice!

Blue/White Pinwheel back

Because my B'day is next week - will be taking off for a week or so.  As an early Birthday gift to ALL of you - here's the Big Reveal of our March 2022 'Twister' Sweet Freedom Mystery:

'Twister' - 58" x 70" FINISHED

The 'interior' setting w/Pinwheel blocks & Red/White/Red Rail fence blocks measures 42" x 54" WITHOUT any exterior borders.  My diagram shows four (4) perimeter borders = two (2) white, one (1) Blue and one (1) Red that 'each' measure 2" FINISHED ...Quilter's Choice IF you add ALL of them/some of them OR none at all...right?

You 'also' have the option of ADDING more Pinwheel/Rail fence blocks to 'enlarge' this quilt, you could 'also' change the size of one and/or MORE of the perimeter borders...right?

LOTS of sizing options are available to 'each' individual quilter, along with fabric/scrappy choices...Quilter's Choice!

We'll be taking a pause from our Sweet Freedom Mysteries to 'catch up' on a few things - including quilting our mystery quilts, bordering out/quilting/binding/labeling our precious Volunteer quilts, and Awarding quilts to our Beloved Veterans and Service Members.

Thanks for joining in on our Sweet Freedom Mysteries for 2022!
