Sweet Freedom Mystery Resumes for 2022!

 Happy New Year!

After sitting out for 2021, Sweet Freedom Mysteries resumes in 2022 with a few changes to keep things Fresh & FUN!  

Rather than offer one (1) mystery for the ENTIRE year, we will be offering one (1) Sweet Freedom Mystery each month of 2022 for a Total of twelve (12) mystery quilts!  (As a longarmer myself, I will not only be creating at least one of these quilts alongside each of you, I will also be quilting each one every month AND three (3) of our volunteer toppers' quilts - should stay plenty busy!)

This will be more of a virtual 'sew/quilt along', rather than a Mystery however, the final reveal each month will not be until 'sometime' during the last week of the month.  The patterns may or may NOT be shared, depending on the design chosen and/or created, respecting copyright laws, etc., but we will be providing direct links to the pattern(s) chosen, when available and appropriate.  The quilts we create will NOT always be 'panel' quilts.  Again, we are mixing things up and offering different quilt pattern designs for each month.

We are starting off the New Year with panel quilts and the first two have been chosen - here's the link for the panel we've chosen for our January 2022 Sweet Freedom Mystery:

You are ALWAYS free to utilize whichever panels you would like to use.  Typically, our corresponding quilt blocks/units 'should' work with your panel BUT, as we ALL know, panels can and do vary in size.  Please check the measurements of these two panels and IF you choose to use a different patriotic panel, try to choose one w/similar measurements.

Fabrics:

1/2 - 1 yd. EACH of five (5) different coordinating fabric prints/colors 

2-3 yd. of neutral/tone-on-tone and/or white

1 - 1 1/2 yd. medium blue 

1/2 - 3/4 yd. Red solid OR  print

PLEASE NOTE:  Fabric options given for our current/upcoming Sweet Freedom Mysteries will be given in very 'general' terms, and will depend largely on 'your' cutting decisions/tools.  Our January Sweet Freedom Mystery has been designed in EQ8, based on cutting methods utilizing AccuQuilt Go! dies and rotary cutters.

Your choice of cutting methods can and probably will affect fabric requirements.  Please allow extra fabric for cutting errors, personal design choices, and even changes 'you' may choose to make in your finished patriotic quilt...Happy Cutting/Sewing!

This monthly mystery is being conducted for the sole purpose of creating beautiful patriotic quilts to Honor our Beloved Veterans and Service Members.  Keeping the final intended recipients of these quilts in mind, helps to keep me focused and on my sewing/quilting toes, while ALWAYS intending to sew/quilt in the 'Good Vibes' while having plenty of FUN!  Our hope is you will be able to do the same.

Plan on joining us for at least one if not ALL of our monthly Sweet Freedom Mysteries.  Once our Sweet Freedom Mystery 'actually' begins on January 14, 2022, we will be posting additional pics/details and our first Clue!

Clue #1 of our Sweet Freedom Mystery is HERE!

Are YOU ready? Ready to get started cutting/sewing on some Stunning Stars? Our January 2022 Sweet Freedom Mystery includes Stars - LOTS of 6" ( FINISHED in the quilt 'after' ALL the seam allowances have been sewn), which makes them 6 1/2" prior to being sewn into our quilt = I refer to this measurement as 'in-the-raw' .   Our 'We The People' panel quilt includes twenty-six (26) TOTAL of these 6" Sawtooth Stars. These are 6 1/2" in-the-raw Sawtooth Stars.  AccuQuilt GO! dies will be used throughout our Mystery Adventures whenever possible for cutting blocks.  The speed/accuracy provided by these cutting dies, IMHO, is second to none.  This is very much a personal preference - to each her/his own.  We will also include a direct web link to another alternative method for creating our Sawtooth Stars later in this blog post. Clue #2 - Square Up/Sash

Clue #2 of our February Sweet Freedom Mystery is ready! But first - time to square-up your panel(s) and add Red border sashings: Squared-up/Bordered out Prior to adding ANY borders, first things First.  IF you haven't already, now is the time to square-up/press your patriotic panel. Trimming the panel side Selvage panel trim Top/selvage trim Time to press w/Best Friend: Pressing is the Best w/Mary Ellen's ;-) Now that everything has been trimmed/squared & pressed, time to add some border sashing. I chose to add 2 1/2" in-the-raw (2" FINISHED) Red Star border sashing strips to each side of my panel - From my Red Star fabric I cut: (4) Four 2 1/2" Red Star fabric GO!
